Álex Padilla is in Mexico's squad for the upcoming international window. The Athletic goalkeeper joins a camp featuring four friendlies and another opportunity to work with the national team.
Backing from Bilbao
Edin Terzić praised the goalkeeper's daily work after his selection. That recognition accompanies the call-up, but it is not a promise of a starting place. Padilla's involvement will depend on the decisions of Mexico's coaching staff during the camp.
Four dates to follow
Mexico face Colombia on September 26, Peru on September 29, the United States on October 3 and Chile on October 6. The sequence provides several opportunities for assessment, without confirming how playing time will be shared among those selected.
The role has its own colours too: the Mexico 2026 goalkeeper shirt offers another connection for supporters following El Tri from between the posts.
TBO SPORT analysis: beyond the saves
When watching a goalkeeper, positioning, communication with defenders and decisions under pressure deserve attention alongside shot-stopping. An international camp offers time to develop those connections before competition. For Padilla, the useful questions concern how he makes use of his time with the group and the confidence he communicates. One isolated action would be an incomplete basis for judging his window. Training, selection and any eventual match minutes are different stages of the same process.
